Uganda is one of Africa's premier birding destinations, with over 1,000 recorded species packed into a country smaller than the UK — more than Kenya and Tanzania combined. The variety comes from the sheer range of habitats: Albertine Rift montane forest, papyrus swamps, savannah, and rainforest all within a few hours' drive of each other.
Top targets include the prehistoric-looking shoebill stork, most reliably found in Mabamba Swamp near Lake Victoria or the Murchison Falls delta; the African green broadbill and dozens of Albertine Rift endemics in Bwindi and Semuliki; and forest specialists like the great blue turaco and African grey parrot in Kibale and Bigodi.
Because birding rewards depend on having a guide who knows calls and micro-habitats, every Tulabagane Expeditions birding itinerary is built around a specialist birding guide rather than a general safari driver, and timed for early morning and late afternoon activity peaks.
Mabamba Swamp, a short boat ride from Entebbe, and the Murchison Falls delta are the two most reliable shoebill locations in Uganda.
