5 Day Amboseli Wildlife Safari

Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi. After breakfast and a pre-safari briefing with your guide, drive south through Kajiado County (approximately 4 hours) to Amboseli National Park. Afternoon game drive through the park’s open plains and swamp margins — spotting elephant herds with the snow-capped backdrop of Mt. Kilimanjaro (5,895m) rising dramatically on the southern horizon. Dinner and overnight at your Amboseli lodge.

Early morning game drive when Kilimanjaro is clearest and the light is golden. Amboseli is one of Africa’s finest elephant-watching destinations — large breeding herds gather at the Enkongo Narok and Longinye swamps throughout the day. Also look for lions, cheetahs, hyenas, Maasai giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and over 400 bird species including the unmistakable saddle-billed stork. Afternoon drive to Observation Hill for panoramic views across the swamps, dusty plains, and the great mountain beyond. Dinner and overnight.

A full day exploring Amboseli’s varied habitats — from the lush Enkongo Narok and Longinye swamps (where large elephant breeding herds gather to drink and bathe) to the dusty, open Amboseli Basin dusted white with volcanic ash from ancient eruptions. Watch Maasai giraffes browsing umbrella acacias, buffaloes wallowing in the papyrus channels, and hippos surfacing in the swamp pools. Picnic lunch in the park. Dinner and overnight.

Morning transfer to the nearby Kimana Community Wildlife Sanctuary, located just outside the park boundary — a community-run conservation area offering excellent close-up encounters with wildlife in a quieter, less-crowded setting. Cheetahs, lions, and elephants frequently roam the sanctuary. Return to Amboseli for a late afternoon game drive. Sundowner overlooking the plains as Kilimanjaro glows pink in the setting sun. Dinner and overnight.

Final game drive at dawn — when the light turns golden, Kilimanjaro’s glaciers glow, and elephants move silently through the morning mist. After breakfast, drive back to Nairobi (approximately 4 hours). Drop-off at your hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your onward flight, marking the end of the 5-Day Amboseli Wildlife Safari.
