Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi. After a briefing with your driver-guide, drive approximately 5–6 hours southwest through the spectacular Great Rift Valley escarpment to the Masai Mara National Reserve — Kenya’s most celebrated game reserve. Arrive in time for an evening game drive across the golden savannah. Dinner and overnight at your Mara lodge or tented camp.
Full day game drives through the Mara plains and Musiara Marsh. The Masai Mara offers consistently excellent Big 5 sightings — lion prides lounging on kopjes, large elephant herds moving through the acacia woodlands, Cape buffalo in dense herds, elusive leopards draped in fig trees, and black rhinos near the Mara Triangle. Picnic lunch in the field. Evening drive returning at dusk. Dinner and overnight.
Focus your morning drive on the Mara River — one of the world’s most dramatic wildlife spectacles. During the peak season (July–October), over 1.5 million wildebeest and 200,000 zebras thunder across the crocodile-filled river in frenzied crossings. Year-round, the river banks teem with enormous Nile crocodiles, bloats of hippos, and rich birdlife including fish eagles and African skimmers. Afternoon game drive across the Mara Triangle. Sundowner overlooking the plains. Dinner and overnight.
Optional pre-dawn hot air balloon safari over the Mara (at own cost) — drifting silently above herds of wildebeest and zebra as the sun rises. After breakfast, visit an authentic Maasai manyatta (village) — witness traditional warrior dances, learn about age-set ceremonies and herding culture, and purchase handmade beadwork and crafts directly from artisans. Afternoon game drive with a focus on cheetah hunting behaviour and spotted hyena packs. Dinner and overnight.
Final sunrise game drive across the golden Mara plains — the morning light transforms the savannah into a photographer’s paradise. After breakfast, drive back to Nairobi via the Great Rift Valley viewpoint. Drop-off at your hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, marking the end of the 5-Day Masai Mara Wildlife Safari.
