You will be picked up early from Kampala or Entebbe and driven west towards Kasese, the gateway town to the Rwenzori Mountains, with the snow-capped peaks visible in the distance on a clear day. Have lunch en route. On arrival, check in to your lodge, meet your mountain guides and porters for an equipment check and trek briefing, then rest ahead of an early start the next day. Dinner and overnight stay.
After breakfast, register at the park headquarters and begin your trek along the Kilembe trail, climbing through montane forest alive with birdlife and colobus monkeys. Cross several streams before reaching Sine Hut, your first overnight camp. Dinner and overnight stay in mountain huts.
Continue climbing through bamboo forest into the heather zone, with striking views over the Kilembe valley below. Reach Kalalama Camp in the afternoon, where giant lobelias and groundsel begin to appear along the trail. Dinner and overnight stay.
Trek through the surreal Afro-alpine moorland zone, passing bogs and rocky outcrops with panoramic views of the Mutinda peaks. This is one of the most scenic days of the hike, with the "Mountains of the Moon" landscape in full display. Dinner and overnight at Mutinda Camp.
Spend the day acclimatizing with an optional hike up a nearby ridge for close-up views of glaciers and alpine lakes, weather permitting. This rest day helps your body adjust to the altitude before the descent. Return to camp for dinner and overnight stay.
Begin your descent back down the mountain, retracing the trail through the heather and bamboo zones back to Nyakalengija at the park gate. Drive back to your lodge in Kasese for a well-earned hot shower, dinner and overnight stay.
After breakfast, start your journey back to Kampala or Entebbe. Have lunch en route, then continue to your preferred destination — marking the end of your Rwenzori Mountains hiking expedition.
