Boat Cruises

About Boat Cruises

Some of Uganda's best wildlife viewing happens from the water. The Kazinga Channel, linking Lake Edward and Lake George in Queen Elizabeth National Park, has one of the highest hippo concentrations in Africa alongside buffalo, elephants and dense waterbird life along its banks — a two-hour cruise routinely outperforms a game drive for sheer numbers of animals seen.

On the Nile in Murchison Falls National Park, a launch cruise runs from Paraa up to the base of the falls themselves, where the entire river is forced through a 7-metre gap with tremendous force — with Nile crocodiles, hippos and elephants commonly seen along the banks en route.

For a calmer, more scenic cruise, Lake Bunyonyi's boat trips weave between 29 islands with Batwa and Bakiga community stops, best enjoyed at sunset.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which boat cruise has the best wildlife viewing in Uganda?

The Kazinga Channel in Queen Elizabeth National Park is generally rated the best for sheer density of hippos, buffalo and birdlife from the water.

How long is the Murchison Falls boat cruise?

The launch cruise from Paraa to the base of the falls takes roughly two to three hours each way, and is included in all our Murchison Falls itineraries.

Can I do a boat cruise without booking a full safari?

Boat cruises are normally included within a multi-day safari package rather than booked as a standalone trip, since the parks themselves require park entry.
